Wednesday Sandwich #6

We’re on our little east coast road trip. Our final destination was Acadia National Park, we came today, had lobsters in Bar Harbor and now we’ll have a little pray for the weather tomorrow, I really hope that rain will let us explore this east coast gem.

When you’re in Maine, you have to eat lobsters, that’s what everybody told me. We wanted to stop for a quick lunch by the sea and we wanted the best lobster roll we could find. After a little research we decided to try the lobster roll at Keag Store in South Thomaston. It’s in the middle of nowhere, small town grocery store where you can eat homemade food and have your coffee. But they are famous for the lobster rolls. And now I know why…lobster rolls are delicious!

But what’s the secret? There are plenty of places in the area serving ‘the best lobster rolls’. You

know the secret after the first bite, it’s crunchy and buttery and filled with the freshest lobster you could find, what else you could ask for? It’s not a fancy sandwich, no high end ingredients, just a plain, fresh, homemade, buttery lobster roll. And locals eat there, there’s no better sign than that! We had it there, in the store, on plastic table covers, in blue metal plates with chips and coleslaw. At that kind of place you really feel like you live there, like you’re the one of the locals just dropping by to grab your lunch. And that is what I love the most about traveling, catching that one moment when you feel home, when you feel like you lived there forever, when you become part of the place and people. That’s what I felt at that old-fashioned store today.

And of course, it’s Wednesday, the best day to share with you the best lobster roll I ever had. If you’ll ever drive through Maine, don’t forget to drop by this great place and grab you lobster roll, you’ll not regret it! Not to forget, there are

some rules in the Keag Store…

WEAR. EAT. LOVE. by Adriana

  1. The Keag Store is in the town where I was raised and my ancestors settled in 1765. It used to hold a case with penny candy. Jess Sleeper could hear that sliding door in the back of the case as the kids filled their bags. I can still hear the echos of it today when I stop in for something.

    • Thank you very much Mary Beth for sharing your lovely memories! I can only imagine that time! You can feel something special in they store, that I know! Thanks again! xx
